The Transportation Safety Board is investigating after a Challenger 2 Ultralight aircraft crashed into Lake George near Squirrel Island yesterday.

A news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) states that the aircraft in question capsized and sank following the crash.

"The pilot who was the sole occupant of the aircraft escaped and a nearby boat picked up the pilot and transported him to shore," the release says.

The pilot was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

In addition to OPP, Batchewana First Nation Police, Anishinabek Police Service Marine Unit, and District of Sault Ste. Marie Paramedic Services all responded to the scene.
