Blind River man faces numerous charges after domestic incident

SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION, ON - On May 30, 2017, shortly after 7 a.m., members from the East Algoma Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic at a residence on the Territory of Serpent River First Nation. 

Investigation determined that a physical altercation took place between five adults. The accused allegedly threw things around the home and physically assaulted four people. A 31-year-old female and the accused were taken to hospital with minor injuries and were treated and released. Two males and a female who were involved in the altercation did not receive any injuries.

As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old male from Blind River, Ontario was charged with:

  • Assault - Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Assault (X3), contrary to section 266 of the CC;
  • Assault with a Weapon (X2), contrary to section 267(a) of the CC;
  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC;
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance (X2), contrary to section 145(3) of the CC; and
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on June 2, 2017.
