20-year-old charged after 3:30 a.m. four wheeler traffic stop on Highway 17

MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES – On June 14, 2020, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the Municipality of Huron Shores.  

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., police observed a four wheeler traveling eastbound on Hwy 17 approaching Station Rd with no lights on. The driver was also observed not to be wearing a helmet. A traffic stop was initiated on Station Road where the driver fled on foot. A short foot chase ensued where the driver was arrested.  

As a result of the investigation, Shawn Bisaillon, age 20, from Thessalon First Nation was charged with: 

  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);  
  • Fail to stop for police, contrary to section 216(1) of the HTA;
  • Not properly Insured, contrary to section 17 of the HTA Ontario Regulations (O. Reg.) 316/03; 
  • Driver-no Helmet contrary to section 19(1) of the HTA O. Reg. 316/03;  
  • Lamps not lit, contrary to section 13(2) of the HTA O. Reg. 316/03; and with  
  • Drive off-road vehicle -no number plate, contrary to section 3(1) of the Off Road Vehicles Act.   

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on Aug. 12, 2020
