Off-duty Ottawa police officer charged with impaired driving

OTTAWA — An off-duty Ottawa police officer has been charged with impaired driving.

Ottawa police say they responded to calls for an erratic driver around 1:45 p.m. Monday.

They say Const. James Monroe was allegedly driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit.

He was released on a promise to appear in court.

Police say the officer has been assigned to administrative duties.

They also say an internal investigation into the matter has begun.
