RICHMOND HILL, Ont. — Police say a sixth person has been arrested for the alleged December 2021 attack on a woman who was later abducted from a relative's home in Ontario.

York Regional Police say officers arrested a 24-year-old British Columbia man in Surrey, B.C., on Friday as they continue investigating what happened to 37-year-old Elnaz Hajtamiri.

Police say the man remains in custody in Ontario on charges of aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

They say Hajtamiri was violently assaulted with a frying pan in an underground parking lot in Richmond Hill, Ont., on Dec. 20, 2021.

Police say she was then abducted on Jan. 12, 2022, from a relative's home in Wasaga Beach, Ont., where her family says she was hiding out after the attack.

Police say two women have been charged with kidnapping, while a warrant remains out for one man and investigators try to pin down the identity of another outstanding suspect.
