HAMILTON — Hamilton police say a 22-year-old man has been charged in violent sexual assaults on two women in 2022 and 2023.

Police allege a woman was walking in a west-end neighbourhood on July 13, 2022 when she was approached by a man who dragged her into a wooded area.

They allege he gagged her and bound her wrists, then assaulted her before he was interrupted by witnesses and fled on foot.

Police also say a 74-year-old woman was alone in her west-end home on Aug. 7, 2023 when a man allegedly entered the house while she was sleeping, assaulted her for over an hour and then fled.

Police say in January 2024, investigators used forensic evidence to connect the two assaults to the same suspect.

They say the suspect was found living in the United States and was recently extradited to Canada where he faces multiple charges, including aggravated sexual assault and two counts of forcible confinement.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 28, 2024.
