Homicide detectives take over probe into death of two-year-old girl in Toronto

TORONTO — Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation into the death of a two-year-old girl in Toronto.

Police say the girl was in "medical distress" when she arrived at a west-end hospital on Friday.

They say she died in hospital that same day, and a post-mortem was conducted Monday.

It found her cause of death was blunt force trauma.

The homicide unit has taken over the investigation, which officers say was initially in the hands of the local police division and the Child and Youth Advocacy Centre.

There's no word on potential suspects.
