14-year-old Toronto girl in critical condition after early-morning shooting

TORONTO — A 14-year-old girl is in hospital in critical condition after an early morning shooting in Toronto.

Police say the girl is expected to survive the shooting that happened in an apartment building near the intersection of Jane Street and Finch Street.

Acting Staff Supt. Pauline Gray says that a number of people reportedly fled the apartment after the shooting.

She says they are not necessarily suspects in the case and asked them and any other witnesses to come forward.

Gray also says police believe the incident is unrelated to another shooting that happened less than two hours later and just five kilometres away.

Police say that in the second shooting a man in his early 20s was outside his vehicle when two other men approached him and fired 20 rounds at him, with at least two bullets hitting him.

Investigators say he's in serious condition but they expect he'll live.
