It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected loss of Michael Zalewski, at the age of 59. He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine, who is honoured to have spent the last 24 years, 20 of those years as his wife.
Waiting to welcome him home with open arms is his late mother, Delores Zalewski, whom he lost when he was only 14 years old, and the father who shaped Michael into the man he became, the late Edward Zalewski.
Michael was the cherished brother of Christopher Zalewski (Cynthia), Marty Zalewski (Sonia), Andrea Soltys (Bob), and Carolyn Zalewski (Barry Baxter). He was brother in-law to Kathy Marshall (Jerry), Maralyn Pandzic (the late Jerry), Dennis Quinn, and Susan Dias (Vasco).
Uncle to Adam Zalewski (Laura), Alex Zalewski (Melody), Taylor Zalewski (Brooke), Paul Zalewski, Danielle Zalewski, Sarah Marshall (Denis Mahoney), John Marshall (Andrea), Kyle Pandzic, Michael Pandzic (Mandy), Daniel Pandzic, Brittany Quinn (Tylour), Corey Marques, and Ryan Dias (Hannah). Very proud great uncle to Cole, Grayson, Rowan, Ryder, Sloane, Beau, Kayden, Sawyer, Maddison, Mackenzie, Kara, Briar, and Ellie.
Michael was brother of the heart to Kara Webster and Daniel Doucet and very special unkie to Caroline and Romy.
Michael will be remembered forever for his sense of humour, laughter, and for teasing, especially the kids that he loved so much. We all knew that although he liked to tease, he would have walked through fire for those he loved. Michael's love was unconditional. He was generous, down to earth, and never cared for material possessions. Well almost never, except for his beloved truck.
Michael was lucky to have had the opportunities to wear many different hats in his lifetime, but the one he cherished the most was being a foster parent with his wife for 10 years. He helped care for over 20 children in that time and held near to his heart special memories of each one. Home and family were the corner stones of Michael's values. He was happiest at home where he loved to cook and spend time with his furry buddy, Pepper who misses him very much. His greatest past time was attending Greyhound Hockey games with his wife, cheering on the team.
A special thanks to the Sault Ste. Marie paramedics as well as the Sault Ste. Marie police. A very heart felt thanks to Officer Fell who provided much needed support and comfort. Our deepest gratitude to our building manager, Nancy for her care and compassion.
When He left us, he took a piece of our hearts with him. Michael, we may not be able to hold you in our arms any longer, but we will hold you in our hearts forever.
Cremation has taken place, and a private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
In memory of Michael, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
