September 29, 1958 – Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
July 12, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Michael Wysynski, beloved husband of Catherine-Lyn Wysynski (nee Whalen), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the age of 65 years.

Michael bravely fought a difficult and painful battle with cancer; although his spirit was courageously determined to fight on, he passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side.

Michael is survived by his wife Catherine-Lyn (Whalen), his stepdaughter Meghan Mismas, his stepson Adam Mismas and grandpuppy Austen; he was son-in-law to Roy and Dusty Aylett and Marvin and Deborah Whalen; brother-in-law to Tim and Vicki Whalen; stepuncle to Ashley and Conor.

Michael was the son of the late Alexander Joseph and the late Rose Marie (nee Yukich), brother of David (late Maureen), the late Patrick (Deborah), Allan (Eun Jung) and Diane. Loving uncle to Trevor (Lisa), Tricia (Jeff), Sheppard (Jeannine), K.C., and Lua, and granduncle to Kaleb, Aimee, Athena, Xavier, Aria and Violet.

Michael lived a most colourful, bold, and adventurous life. He was known for his love of the outdoors, most notably camping, boating, fishing, and snowmobiling. Michael was an early hang gliding enthusiast, and a lifelong sports fan. He was also a notorious card player and darts competitor.

His occupation was as a Red Seal welder/inspector and earlier on, was noted as a salesman extraordinaire. He always liked to tinker and could fix or repair most broken things. He was fun loving, humorous, and quick to laughter and smiles. He was also known for his sayings, “Send me in coach, I’m ready,” “You win some, you lose a lot,” “Call me 24/7, no cover charge,” and “Let me show you a trick I learned in Boy Scouts.”

Michael loved life, lived it enthusiastically, and would be the first to volunteer to jump in to help anyone in need; he would be your most devoted and loyal friend, and biggest cheerleader and supporter. He might show up a little late sometimes but would surely be there for you.

After a long bachelorhood, in 2016, Michael finally met his blue-eyed blonde beauty, Catherine, the love of his life, and the two happily married in 2023. She stayed by his side through thick and thin, to the very end.

Michael will be dearly missed by his large family, his neighbours, and his friends from coast-to-coast. One would say that he certainly lived his life to the fullest (“Pedal-to-the-Metal”), loved deeply, and possessed such a unique character that he was, and always will be, unforgettable.

By the grace of God, Michael can now rest in peace, forever. May God continue to bless him and keep him safe… until we meet again.

A family and friends Celebration of Life for Michael will take place at a later date.
