Passed away peacefully at Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) on the morning of Friday, March 9, 2018 with his friend Athlene Dupuis by his side. Predeceased by his parents Sietse and Jetske Vanderwal. Loving brother of Siete (Joke) and Geertje (Jenne). Bill will be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Loving friend of everyone who had the good fortune of knowing him. Bill bids a final farewell as he tips his cap to fellow workers at Algoma Central Railway. Bill had the honour of serving for decades in the encouragement and recovery of countless individuals suffering from addictions. Bill was the recipient of CAMH foundation award of courage, as well as the SSM volunteer award for outstanding volunteer service. Friends are invited to visit at the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel on Thursday, March 15, 2018 between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Funeral service to take place in the chapel at 1 p.m with Rev. John Wilson officiating. Memorial contributions to ARCH or Algoma Family Services would be greatly appreciated by the family. A special thank you to Nicki Apostle and the team of palliative care nurses. The family wishes to acknowledge their gratitude to Andrea Kramer, Christine Elliott, James Noble and the caring staff at Collegiate Retirement Residence.
