It is with sadness that the family of Mel (Melvin) Ursell announces his passing, at the age of 77, at Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) on Friday, January 27, 2017. Mel was born on July 26, 1939 in Sudbury to the late Merle (Proud) and John (Jack) Ursell. Mel is survived by his loving partner and best friend of 31 years, Gloria Grummett; his daughters Shari (Greg McMillan), Melanie Ursell (Ray Parsons) and Jodie; his sister Rosaleen (Dieter Kuehn); his grandchildren Ember and Quinlan; his nephews Steven Ali and Darren Ali; and special friend and brother-in-law, Rodney Swarek. Mel retired from Sault College in 1995 where he taught architectural and civil engineering. He possessed an enviable work ethic and immersed himself wholly in both work and play. Mel was creative, inventive, and didn't always follow the rules. He enjoyed the outdoors... fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and boating. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Those who so desire may make donations in his memory to ARCH, 229 Fourth Line West, Sault Ste. Marie. A sincere thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Sault Area Hospital and ARCH Hospice who were involved in Mel's care and made his final days comfortable and peaceful. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (492 Wellington St. East, 705-759-2522). Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.arthurfuneralhome.com.
