David Tyrrell passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 57 years, Susan, by his side. Loving father of Andrew and Iain, father in law to Nikki Tyrrell and Tingting Liu, and grandfather to Drayden, Avary and Daniel, all of whom loved and admired him dearly. Survived by his sister, Linda, brother-in-law Ian, and sisters-in-law Jean and Katie of England.

David was born in Doncaster, England in 1940 and grew up in post-war England. While earning his university degrees from Birmingham and London he enjoyed frequent rock climbing trips to Scotland and Wales. David came to Canada in 1964. Wedded to Susan in 1965, they together established deep roots in the area, first in Sault Ste. Marie and later in Laird township. In 1980 David, Susan and boys moved to a new home that would become Moccasin Rock Farm. Their move allowed David’s love of agriculture and talent for building and carpentry to flourish and grow. A vital man with steadfast resolve to get on with things, he taught his sons so much in his own quiet way. He had a keen mind and sense of humour, and a natural aptitude for puzzling things out. His many hobbies and interests included a lifetime love of gardening, observing nature, cricket, golf, and curling, and Scottish Country dancing.

He lived a long and full life yet had many things left that he wanted to do and see. He will be missed greatly by his family and those who knew him well.

Our family wishes to thank the many friends and neighbours who have reached out with gestures of kindness and concern and the many dedicated medical professionals who took care of David in his final months, particularly Doctor Spadafora and nurse Louise, Doctor Booth, Doctor Kuntz and Bayshore nurses Amy and Jessica, who were always professional and caring, were never rushed, and were towers of strength for us all. They are a credit to their profession.
