August 8,1942- September 9, 2024
Hubert Edward Totten, 82, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, passed away on Monday, September 9th, 2024. He was born in Sparta NJ in 1942 to Hubert Totten Sr., and Harriet Riker. Joining the US Airforce at age 17, he trained and served as an aircraft technician and completed his Airforce service at Kinross Air Base (now Chippewa County International Airport) in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He met his lovely wife Diane Totten (nee Delavalle), a nursing student, at a Valentine's dance at the base. After he proposed to her several times, she finally said yes, and they married in 1967. They chose to raise their family in the Sault. Hubert continued with his love of mechanics, working first on cars and trucks and eventually joining Algoma Steel's maintenance division for road vehicles, trucks, and locomotives, where he retired as a foreman. After he retired, he loved working in his garden, showing his grandkids how to dig up potatoes, and repairing cuckoo clocks.
Hugh was preceded in death by his wife Diane, in 2000, and is survived by their four children, Tracy (Ken), Paul (Angelica), Kim, and Michael(Shelby). He was Papa to Jonathan, Caroline, Christina, Evelyn, Olivia, Isaac, Noah, Nils, Annalea, Alexis, and Riley. And great Papa to Jasper. He leaves behind his loving partner for over 20 years, Jodi Piazza.
He lived his life in his beautiful heart, always generous with a deep kindness for others.
