It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Antonio Torcaso, at Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH), on Saturday, December 31st, 2022, in his 91st year, surrounded by his loving family.

Antonio is now reunited with his beloved wife, Giannina. Loving father of Michael, Mara (Dan) and Enzo (Julie). Cherished nonno of Ryland, Jana (Dean), Zachary and Mitchell. Beloved son of the late Michelangelo Torcaso and Marianna Bonadio and stepson of the late Filomena Torchia.

Loving brother to the late Maria Pullia (Francesco), Giovanna Bruno (Giordano) and Angelo (Franceschina). Survived by brothers, Francesco (Maria-Rosa) and Pasquale (Angelina) and sisters, Rosa Caruso (Ferdinando), Térèsa Papuzzo (Francesco), Adrianna Szczepaniak (Richard) and Michèle Thiery (Didier). Also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends in Canada, France, Italy, and the United States.

Our father was a quiet, hard-working man who always put his family first and who demonstrated his love by his actions rather than his words.

Antonio immigrated from Calabria, Italy as a young man and worked in many different capacities: the steel industry, the Canadian Pacific Railway maintaining the track, in construction, at Superior Home Bakery delivering bread, and as a custodian for the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board.

He enjoyed gardening and cultivated vegetables, spices and fruit trees. He enjoyed making his own wine, which he proudly offered to all to sample. His recycled “inventions” were evident throughout his home and backyard. These innovations will always be remembered by his children and grandchildren with joy and laughter. He will be fondly remembered for the many family outings he enjoyed with his children, and the special family meals they shared. His ultimate goal was to give his children a better life

than he had, and he succeeded admirably. We are very proud of our dear father and nonno.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the following professional and caring medical staff: Dr. C. Kuntz and Dr. Matthews at the Group Health Centre, Dr. D. Berry, Dr. Haidar, Dr. Gupta, Dr. Jadavji, the SAH Emergency and ICU Departments, and the many nurses and staff who cared for Antonio.

Thank you to all of the amazing staff at ARCH who supported him, and to our extended family and friends for their compassion, warmth, and kindness. Words cannot express our gratitude.

As per our father’s wishes, a private family celebration of his life will take place at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. -705-759-2522) on Friday, January 6th, 2023. Entombment will follow at the Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Antonio’s memory may be made (by cheque or online) to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Renal Care Fund or to the ARCH.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Torcaso family.
