April 3, 1946 - July 7, 2024
It is with incredible sadness and heavy hearts that we announce Terry’s passing of Pulmonary Fibrosis on Sunday, July 7, 2024. A couple of days prior, he dictated this obituary for me to type.
“I have been so happy and proud to have Taryn as a daughter, Kirk, as a son-in-law and grandchildren Brie and Jay. They have fulfilled my life and I love them dearly. Karen has been my rock from the day we met and I am fortunate to have her. She is a great mom and raised Taryn so well, and now she has a wonderful happy family of her own, which gives me great comfort.
Thank you to my friends from Blind River, Espanola, Sault Ste. Marie, and the Lake State University Family for the many wonderful experiences I enjoyed with them.
I want my teaching colleagues and students in Hearst, Desbarats & Echo Bay to know how much I loved going to work because of them. Being nicknamed "Mr. T." by the students holds a special place in my heart.
I want to thank Joe and Julie D’Agostino, & David Rowe for helping Karen with yard work and being such kind, caring neighbours.
Thank you to Dr. C. Bruni & Sharon at Group Health Centre, Dr. D. Bignell, Dr. G. Berg, Dr S. Shapera & Associates, and Dr. R. Coleman at University Health Network, Toronto for their expertise, responsiveness, and attentive and caring ways. Also a thank you to Sara and Ryan at Medigas for their guidance and compassion.
I’ve had a wonderful life and that helps to make my current situation acceptable. And, for anyone reading this, please make sure Karen keeps the backyard in good shape!”
Terry has been the much loved and wonderful husband of Karen for 53 years. Loving and devoted father of Taryn (Kirk). Proud papa of Brie and Jay. Predeceased by his parents Bud and Freda Thompson. Dear brother of Trudy Neilson (late Norm) and Sue Thompson. Brother-in-law of Pam Maguire (late Don).
He will be remembered by nieces and nephews, Joel Neilson (Lindsay), Susie Neilson-Spina (Tony), Jess Balanyk, Steve Maguire (Richard), Shawna Wilson (Jim) and great nieces and nephews Gracie and Beckett Neilson, Konrad and Julia Balanyk, Mikayla and Elissa Wilson. "Favourite nephew" of Cathie Sablatnig (Al).
Taryn and I also thank Dr. D. McIntosh, Dr. S. White, Paige (RN) & Chris (RN) for the excellent care they provided to Terry at the SAH Emergency Department and the third floor "C".
At Terry’s request there will be no visitation or service. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522). Expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.arthurfuneralhome.com
