Passed away peacefully in her 100th year of life on November 4th, 2023 at St. Joseph’s General Hospital Hospice Suite in Elliot Lake. Betty was born in Codette, Saskatchewan to Ella and William Tait (both predeceased) and was the loving wife of William Thomas (predeceased). She leaves behind her caring son Dave White (partner Sylvia) of Elliot Lake, her grandson Curtis of Kitchener, her granddaughter Leslie of Oshawa, and great-grandsons Connor and Gavin. She was a sister to Margaret and Audrey (both predeceased), step-mother to Bill Thomas (predeceased) wife Ann, step-grandmother to Steven and David. Loving Aunt to Don Williams (wife Helen). Betty’s love of family was evident at every family visit, every phone call, every kiss and hug. A family reunion will be held, at a later date, to celebrate her cherished legacy. Betty moved to Elliot Lake Hillside Park Residence in 2012 from Scarborough. She adapted quickly to her new home and was able to remain independent until her short illness. Betty made many good friends at the Residence and there is no doubt that her sense of humour will long be remembered by those who enjoyed her company. Always a smile on her face and a quick quip to brighten the day. The family wishes to express gratitude for the compassion and care showed to Betty by Dr. Emery Nelson, the nursing staff, kitchen staff, and the Palliative Care Volunteers (especially Elaine and Sam) at St. Joseph’s Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in Betty’s name, to the Palliative Care Program or the current Fundraiser at St. Joseph’s General Hospital, 70 Spine Rd., Elliot Lake, ON P5A 1X2. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave). Online condolences to Betty’s family may be made at www.elliotlakefuneralchapel.com
