Our sweet and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Sofia, joined the love of her life Jose Oliveira Silva, after passing peacefully at Sault Area Hospital.
She is lovingly remembered by her children Maria (Tim), Sophia (Mark), George (Rena), Joe (Deena), David (Linda), Claudette (Peter) as well as grandchildren Tanya (Charles), Alex (Michelle), Jessica (Kyle), Rachel, Matt (Kelsey), Dani (Jorge), Samantha (Robbie), Joshua, and 8 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by siblings Palmira from Portugal and Maria Odete from Brazil. Mom will be missed by family in Portugal and Brazil.
The daughter of Manuel and Nazare Almeida, mom was born and raised in Paranhos da Beira, Portugal. She joined dad in Canada in the early 60’s where they began a new life and raised their six children. Mom is remembered for her quick wit and sense of humour. Her green thumb showed in her beautiful flower gardens, and she was proud of her impeccable home. She had a deep love and was very proud of her family. She is dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Thank you to Emergency physician Dr K Johns, Hospitalist Dr N Garbo, and Dr J Hall and 3C Nursing staff for the exemplary care and compassion you administered to our mother Sofia and family. We are so grateful to the March of Dimes homecare staff that made her life easier and fun, she loved you all dearly. Lexine Funston NP, mom respected you, and the loving care you provided for her during your in-home visits these last few years.

A private family service will be held at O'Sullivan Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life open house will be held on Monday December 18, 2023, 4:00 pm at the Portuguese Hall (5 Cornwall St).
