Passed away on February 15, 2020 at the age of 92.  She was born in Lithuania, where she spent her childhood. She and her family lived as refugees in Europe during World War II (where they survived the Dresden fire bombing) before immigrating to Argentina, where she met her husband Richard.  They married in 1954 before moving to England, where her daughters Angela and Vivienne were born, and ultimately, to Canada where they raised their family.  After working at Centennial College in Toronto she moved to Sault Ste. Marie to spend her retirement years with her children and grandchildren.

Idalia deeply cherished her Lithuanian heritage and remained an active part of the Lithuanian community while she lived in Toronto.  She enjoyed listening to opera music, especially with an “afternoon drinky-poo” in hand.  An incredible storyteller, she would frequently surprise and awe her family with the casual way in which she would speak of her early life and war-time experiences.

She is fondly remembered by her daughter Angela Scott-Henley, son-in-law Joe Trevisan, grandchildren David Iles, Lauren Iles, and Sheila Trevisan, sister Irene Nissen, nieces and nephews Chris, Ralph and Peter Nissen and Karla and Vytas Gruodis, and friends. She is predeceased by her daughter Vivienne Scott, former husband and friend Richard Scott, and brother Vytas Gruodis

As per Idalia’s wishes, a memorial service will not be held at this time. Memorial contributions can be made to Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH). Her family is thankful for the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff at the Sault Area Hospital, Northeast LHIN, and ARCH for their compassionate care.   Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E.  705-759-2522).  Please visit Arthur Funeral Home website obituaries to leave memories and condolences as a keepsake for the family.
