August 15, 1959 - November 24, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Schnare in his 66th year on November 24, 2024, at the Sault Area Hospital.

John is survived by his loving wife and best friend Kelly, his son Darren (Jana) and his daughter Nicole (Shaun).  Special “Papa John” to his grandchildren Max, Zara, Price, Maverick and Colt.

Predeceased by his father, Carl, and mother, Eleanor. He is the brother of Carolyn (David), Eleanor (Paul), Susan, Chris and Richard (Kim). As well, uncle to many nieces and nephews.

John had a great passion for music. He could most often be seen either outside enjoying the weather listening to music, or inside looking for new music to add to his immense collection.

Another one of his great pastimes was the outdoors. John worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and had many summers in the bush with some incredible co-workers. He always came home with a great story to tell.  Throughout his career, John made some incredible lifelong friends Bill Parker and Shane Stuart with whom he shared his love of nature.

In addition, another lifelong friend of John’s, who’s friendship spanned all the way back to elementary school days, is Steven Pinnell.  John and Steven met at a very young age when Steven was responsible for walking little John to school, and despite time, life events and distance the two remained in close contact sharing the journey they started all those years ago on their walks.

John’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the team at SAH, Dr. Bowen, Dr. Law and Nurse Dan.  As well, for the care from all the support staff in 3B.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and time.

Anyone wishing to give donations in memorial are asked to consider The Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society, as John had a great love of his dogs and all animals.

If you're lost you can look - and you will find me/ Time after time (Cindy Lauper). Keep on rockin’ John.
