At 7:31 pm, August 29, 2021 our mother, Grandmother, our Matriarch began her journey to meet her son John Kevin, Mom – Elsie Zack, Dad- John Baptiste Corbiere and siblings Calvin and Dianne Corbiere.

She was surrounded by her family during her preparation to depart this world with her son James, daughters- Wahnita, Debby, Dianne, Nadine and Darla and very special and deeply loved grandchildren – Dannielle, Morgan, Jasmine, Janeane, Brooke, Kayleigh and Teah and special niece Candace.

At the age of 83, Shirley Jane Roach Baa, (Ozawa D’bik Giizis Ikwe - Mukwa Dodem) leaves her children James Roach, Wahnita Lato (Victor), Debby Roach, Dianne Roach-Neville (Manny), Nadine Roach, Darla Roach. Cherished and deeply loved by her grandchildren – Dannielle, Morgan (Simon), Jasmine, Janeane (Nick) Brooke (Chris Jr), Sunny (Deanna), Becky, Mark (Kaitlyn), Paul, Jamie, & Teah. Leaving behind her great grandchildren Kayleigh, Simon, Lyla, Madisyn, Jagger, Brooks, Kolten, Donovan, Vayda, Olivia & Ella.  Survived by brother, former Chief of Batchewana First Nation Chief Marvin “Duke” Corbiere and many special nieces and nephews and specially adopted mother/elder to Cathy Syrette, Asima Vezina, Justin Marchand, Thomas Kakapshe.  Predeceased by her husband, John Roach, parents John and Elsie (nee Zack) Corbiere, Calvin Corbiere, Dianne Corbiere. Adopted by many through Shirley’s travels. Shirley will be remembered for her dedication and strong advocacy for Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig (SKG), Algoma University, Children of Shingwauk and Shingwauk Education Trust.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate, and feast Shirley’s life at 27 Whiskey Jack Drive, Garden River First Nation, on Tuesday August 31st, 2021 from 4:00 pm until the time of traditional service: September 2, 2021 1 pm.  Interment Garden River Catholic Cemetery.  Memorial donations to Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig (SKG) in lieu of flowers.
