Born on July 14th, 1926, and departed on May 4th, 2023.
"Take time to smell the roses" was a cherished adage, both spoken and lived by a woman who embodied grace, compassion, and love for everyone who crossed her path.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Eileen Nisbett on May 4th, 2023, at Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH), surrounded by her loving family. She was in her 97th year.
Throughout her extraordinary life, Eileen exuded vibrancy, warmth, and tenderness, touching the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. The smell of freshly baked goods – from blueberry pies and birthday cakes to her famous butter tarts – signified the essence of home. And home, like her baking, transcended physical boundaries, for wherever Eileen went, she brought family, joy, and heartfelt conversations steeped in kindness.
Eileen will be lovingly remembered for her Royal Doulton figurines, Wedgewood, her knitting and sewing, and her treasured memories at Sand Lake, where mornings were brightened by coffee with a touch of Bailey's, homemade blueberry pancakes, and the warmth of friends and family.
She was a radiant gem who lived a life deeply connected to the people and the world around her, never judging but instead always uplifting everyone in the most profound and inspiring ways. Eileen radiated happiness, positivity, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for those in her life. Her remarkable character is something we should all aspire to emulate.
Eileen was predeceased by her husband Robert, her parents Herbert and Reta, and her sisters Olga, Helen, and Dorothy.
She was a devoted and loving mother to Terry Nisbett (Sharon), Barry Nisbett (Linda), Maureen Elgie (David), and was predeceased by her son Wayne Nisbett.
“Nana Eileen” was an energetic grandmother, who played Twister even in her 90s, to Christine LeBlanc (Mike), Mark Nisbett (Nathalie), Julie Zachary (Trevor), Heather Ray (Todd), Jeff Elgie (Megan), Jeff Nisbett (Amanda), John Nisbett, and Scott Elgie (Shannon). She was predeceased by Jennifer Nisbett.
She was a "two-arm hug" always loving great-grandmother to Nolan and Caleb LeBlanc; Halle, Ty, and Ella Zachary; Leah, Taryn, Mya, and Tanner Ray; Lily and Brendan Elgie; Margot and Graham Oak; Pace and Layton Nisbett; Ryan and James Elgie.
Eileen was a cherished aunt and great-aunt to a host of wonderful individuals, forging close friendships, including her coffee shop companions, dear Sand Lake neighbors and her hairdresser Brenda Dion.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E, 705-759-2522) on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 at 2 pm. Rev. Holly Klemmensen. A Celebration of Life reception will follow at Algoma's Water Tower Inn from 4 pm to 6 pm in the Atrium of the Pavilion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (payable by cheque or online) to ARCH would be deeply appreciated by the family.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Nicki Apostle and the ARCH staff and volunteers for providing Eileen with exceptional care, ensuring she passed with dignity and grace.
Even in her final moments, Eileen maintained her beautiful smile, kindness, and thoughtfulness towards everyone around her, just as she always had. The world has lost a truly beautiful soul, but Heaven has gained a beautiful angel.
