Audrey, age 85, went to be with her Lord and Saviour at the Sault Area Hospital on Friday, December 24th, 2021.
Beloved wife of the late Roy Nicholson and formerly the late Jim Markes. Cherished mother of Heather Hurtubise (Marc), Joan Thompson (Len) and Dan Markes (Paula). Step mother to Orvella Juillette (Jack), Connie Thompson (Earl) and Calvin Nicholson (Susan). Loving grandma to Aimee Hurtubise, Cheri Koohtow (Kevin), Johanna Hurtubise (Chris Griffiths), Sharleen Thompson, Ian Thompson (Marci), Eric Thompson, Melissa Markes (Aaron Bradley), Michael Markes, Pam Legault (Marc), Darrell Juillette, Tim Juillette (Angela), Lisa Thompson, Kerri Grasley (Brandon), Andrew Nicholson (Kate), Amy Martin (Mike), Janet Perry (Wes) and Joy Gauthier (Graham).
Audrey was a proud great grandma and great-great grandma of many wonderful grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Predeceased by her parents Charles and Della Shepley. Dear sister of the late Elsie Hodgkinson (late Roy). Treasured aunt to Sharilyn Van Scoy (Darren); great aunt to Alandra and Ashton. Audrey will be missed and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Audrey was a teacher by profession and in life, being a positive influence in many lives. She spent most of her teaching career at East View Public School. Her concern for people extended into her community service at the Algoma Pregnancy Centre, Habitat for Humanity and the Sault Area Hospital.
Her life was a true example of her faith in Jesus Christ, as she taught Sunday School, Pioneer Girls, Vacation Bible School and Ladies Bible Studies. We want to thank the many 3rd floor doctors and nurses at Sault Area Hospital, in particular Megan for her comfort and care in her last days. We also thank Mom's good friend, Joanne, for her friendship and care of our Mom, especially over the last few years.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522) on Friday, December 31, 2021 between 12:30pm - 1:45pm. Funeral service to take place in the Chapel at 2:00pm with Rev. Jack DeVries officiating. (All Covid-19 restrictions and regulations apply. Maximum 80 in the chapel.)
