Peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital with his wife and daughter by his side on Saturday, August 31, 2024, in his 94th year. Beloved husband of Annie (nee Nirkkola). Loving father to his daughters Joan (John), Jenny (John), Lori (Jack) and the late Ronda (Bruce). Proud grandfather of Dean, Cheryl, Jenna, Chad, Falon and Savanna. Great grandfather to Carter, Sophia, Lily and Maximus. Lauri was a dear brother to the late Paul (Loraine) and Oliver. His late mother Sylvia “Mummo”, had a big influence on his soft natured personality that people loved him for. His father, Kalle, passed away suddenly when Lauri was young from a logging accident.
During their marriage of 46 years, he shared the love of Annie’s family as well who all felt the same kindness from a person who had a gentle disposition on life with a great sense of humour. Lauri was a proud bonus dad to Annie’s children Glen, Martin (Judith) and Vicki. He also cherished the grandchildren, Stephen, Lilia, Dash and Sari.
Lauri was a very sweet and honest man. He loved not only household pets but had respect for all animals in nature. His church was his bush lot which brought him peace and tranquility. He was an avid swimmer and storyteller. He took the time to write many fictional stories to his daughters over the years in letters. As adventurers they would take many back road trips to explore and pick blueberries.
Lauri lived a full life and brought happiness to those who knew him. He will dearly be missed.
At Lauri’s request, there will be no services held and cremation has taken place. Memorial donations to the GHC Trust Fund – Audiology would be greatly appreciated by the family.
