With broken hearts we announce Silvio’s passing at the F.J. Davey Home in the early morning on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the age of 91.

Cherished and adored husband of Angelina, who catered to his every need until his last breath. Devoted, precious Daddy of Susan DeRosa (Hugo),  Linda DeGregorio (Paul) and late Baby Assunta.  Very proud Nonno of  Mark DeRosa, Ami Madsen (Chris) and Amanda Baxter (Ron). Adoring Great Nonno of Ryder Madsen who always brought out Silvio’s million dollar smile. Very special brother to Gina Rossi (late Mario),  late Quinto Nardi (Guiseppina) and late Francesco Nardi (late Natalina). Wonderful brother-in-law to late Gaetano Foggia (Vanda), Alfredo Foggia (Sisa), Frank Foggia (Nella) and late Rita Carboni (Sergio). Silvio will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews from Sudbury, Toronto and Italy.

He was born in Cosenza, Italy in 1927 to the late Rocco Nardi and late Assunta Sacco. In his home town of Aprigliano, Grupa, Silvio learned the trade of shoe making and repair. He served  in the Italian Military for 1 year. He left his beautiful country in 1951 to come to Canada for greater job opportunities. Silvio and his lovely bride Angelina were married in 1952 and began their new life together. Very special cousins (late) Louie and (late) Stella Nardi shared their home with the newly married couple for the first year of their marriage.  In the beginning Silvio worked many odd jobs to make ends meet and then was employed by Algoma Steel for almost 34 years in the Cold Mill,  retiring  in 1989. He enjoyed taking long walks, swimming & exercise at the YMCA, puttering in the garden and wonderful beach days at Pointe des Chenes with family and friends. Dad was happiest when celebrating family dinners with his children and grandchildren.

Silvio was blessed with good health most of his life, but combatted Dementia for the last few years and became a resident of the F.J. Davey Home in 2016. Very warm thanks to the kind, compassionate staff  on Birch Lane 1, especially Cheryl, Margaret, Heather, the Melissas, Christine, Michelle, Vicky and others. Mary Alice Policicchio was also a wonderful source of support. They became family members to us and we will never forget their warm hugs when we needed them most. We would also like to acknowledge Cedar 1 Palliative for the tender care during Silvio’s final days.  Much appreciation to family and friends for their support, especially Nick and Trieste Delmonte.

Friends may visit at the  Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East  705-759-2522) on Sunday, July 7, 2019 from 5 pm until 8 pm. Funeral mass to be celebrated from St Jerome’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 11 am.  Rev. Pat Woods officiating. Memorial donations (payable by cheque) to the F.J. Davey Home Foundation or ARCH would be greatly appreciated.

Dad, you will be so greatly missed by Mom, whose love for you is beyond measure. The rest of your family  will never forget your kindness, generosity, devotion and  incredible smile. We pray that you are dancing in heaven with the many other loved ones that have passed and that you are whole again, like you were in your prime. We will love you and remember you forever.
