Ian Gerard Murrant (Jerry) passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025 at age 72 in Oshawa.  Born in Sault Ste. Marie to John and Alice Murrant, he graduated from Sault Collegiate and went on the University of Ottawa, eventually receiving two undergrad and a master’s degree.

Ian soon found a love of teaching which was only matched by a strong desire to travel.  After earning his teaching accreditation from the University of Toronto, he returned many times for further learning in Computer Science and Mathematics to be able to travel and teach in many countries around the world.

Ian taught in Canada at Loyalist and Sault Colleges, in the Caribbean, Central America and Africa, but spent much of his career in South America.

Ian loved good food, good drink and good friends.  Being with friends and telling stories was his greatest joy.  He had lifelong friends in the Soo and many from around the world.  He will be missed by all.  He was one of a kind who only asked for five minutes more.

Ian is survived by Elizabeth Murrant, his beloved wife of almost 38 years, daughter Nicole Gardiner and three granddaughters, and brother Bob (Nora).

Memorial donations to Operation Smile Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family (www.operationsmile.ca).
