1926-2017 - Peacefully, at the F.J. Davey Home with her daughter by her side on Saturday September 2, 2017 at the age of 91. Margaret Dorothy Clayton was born in Sault Ste. Marie on April 20, 1926 to Charles Clayton and Annie Hill. She was the cherished wife of the late Kenneth Carl Morphy and a proud, loving mother to Brian Dunn (Robert Craggs) of Toronto, Eddie Dunn (Jeanne) and Kathleen Portelli (Louis) of Sault Ste. Marie. Sister to John Whalen (late Margaret), late Fred Whalen (late Vivian) of Florida and late Rudy Whalen (late Anna) of Sault Ste. Marie. Margaret was stepmother to Kenneth Morphy, Donna Poll (Daryll) and Debbie Morphy of Smith Falls, Ontario. Cherished Nona to Brian and Craig Dunn, Joanne McNally (Mike), Jessica Ward (Mike), Lisa Portelli (Craig Cartmill). She leaves behind 10 very special great grandchildren: Tara, Ashley and Kate Dunn, Madelyn, Valerie, Russell, Daniel and Marsha McNally, Kellen and Charlotte Ward.
Mom was a firecracker - well known for her love of cooking large turkey dinners for her family, knitting slippers for her grandchildren and listening to old-time country music. She had many careers over a lifetime, starting as a teenager delivering telegrams on her bicycle during WWII. Later on, one of her greatest joys was driving bus for children with Down's Syndrome, and would often come home beaming with stories of them; she truly loved each one. In her later years, Mom often reminisced of her times working at Canada Manpower and those years working alongside her daughter at Service Canada. Her golden years were spent with Carl at their home on Lake George, feeding the chipmunks on the deck and listening to the loons.
In keeping with her wishes, visitation will be held at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (492 Wellington Street East, 705-759-2522) on Thursday September 7, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or another charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
