Passed away suddenly but peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 – one day before her 81st birthday.
Beloved sister to Patrick Moore (Ottawa) and cherished aunt to Stephanie Moore (Montreal), she will be greatly missed by family and friends near and far. Sandra was born in Kapuskasing in 1944 to Melba and Weldon Moore. The young family then moved to Thessalon, where Sandra’s younger brother Patrick was born, and built Melwel Lodge, which they owned and operated from 1945-1981. She grew up there with her adored brother Patrick and worked in the kitchen for 28 years, including the period after her parents sold the lodge and retired to Clear Lake. In 1996, Sandra and her parents relocated to Blind River where she thrived as a proud member of the Catholic Women’s League and devout attendee of St. James the Greater Church. Friendly and good-natured, Sandra had many friends and was well-known in the community. After her father’s passing in 2002, she helped look after her mother until her passing in 2007. In 2009, Sandra moved into the seniors' building 12 Hudson, where she contentedly took up residence and enjoyed regular outings (groceries, exercise classes, Tim Hortons, church and walks to Woodward Avenue). Yvette Jensen was a constant friend and support to Sandra during this time and Sandra developed close relationships with the PSWs on staff at 12 Hudson (Maggie and Debbie, to name but a few). In 2023, Sandra was relocated to the Algoma Manor Nursing Home, in Thessalon, where she found her place in a new community, along with dedicated and caring support from Karen Chalifoux with Community Living Algoma. Sandra enjoyed regular mealtimes, games in the activities lounge, chapel services, musical events and outings. And she remained fiercely passionate about Canada and all things Canadian, including the Toronto Maples Leafs, right to the end (!) Thank you to all staff and community members who looked after her with such heart, this beloved “spicy biscuit” of ours.
A memorial service for Sandra is planned for the spring - details will be announced closer to that time. In the meantime, friends and community members are invited to make donations in her memory to either the Catholic Women's League or St. James the Greater Church. Arrangements entrusted to Menard Funeral Home.
