It is with great sadness that the Mead family announces the unexpected passing of Darlene at the age of 75. She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Peter, their two children, Kristen (Chris VanHorn) and Ryan (Meggan), grandchildren Parker and Miller, cats Willow and Cedar, and dog Rufus.
She was born in October of 1948 to Crystal and Ollie Marson in Sault Ste. Marie.
Darlene was a wonderful mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending her time caring for her grandchildren, and instilling in them her love of reading and education. She was a dedicated hockey mom through and through. She loved seeing her grandkids hit the ice to learn both ringette (Parker) and hockey (Miller). She was an avid gardener, film buff and animal lover.
Darlene attended the University of Toronto and worked as a librarian and special education teacher in the Algoma District Public School Board until she retired.
Darlene’s wishes were that there be no service held. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial donations to the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society are greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758). www.northwoodfuneral.com
She will be greatly missed by all of us.
