We are heartbroken as we share the news that our dear Mother and beloved Grammy, Rhona (Currie) McLarty, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

Rhona spent 58 years with her loving husband, Ken McLarty, until his passing in 2017.

Cherishing a lifetime of memories while mourning her loss are her children Joanne and her husband Peter Falk, Carolyn and her husband Jamie Mitchell, and Blair and his partner Kristy Cooke.

Rhona was the proud grandmother of Amanda and Mya, Nate and Lindsey, Colton and Kendra, and great grandmother of Jade.

She was the youngest child of William and Eliza Currie, and last surviving sibling of Norman, Bert, Tena, Walter, Glen and Ken, all of whom she loved dearly. She was also blessed with twenty fabulous Currie and McLarty nieces and nephews and their families.

Rhona’s friends Jane, Georgina, Donna, Ann and Annette were always near and dear to her heart. Their friendship endured throughout their lives and served as a meaningful example for their children.

Rhona was a teacher and an artist. She loved to paint, and the spot she chose in 1958 on the shore of Basswood Lake provided much inspiration for her work. She was also a seamstress, baker and bridge player extraordinaire.

She spent her final few years at Algoma Manor in Thessalon and felt like she’d come home. Rhona’s family is truly grateful to the staff and managers for their care.

Merl Lawrence, knowing you and Amanda were with Rhona for the last leg of her journey meant the world to us. We are so thankful for you.

Mum, you left suddenly and unexpectedly, but we know it was time to rejoin Dad. We promise to keep you in our hearts and live the way you taught us, caring for our family and friends, and helping wherever we can. We love you forever.

A private celebration of Rhona’s life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations to the North Shore Health Network Auxiliary - Thessalon Site or Algoma Manor would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to Beggs Funeral Home.
