John was a talented artist who moved to Guelph in 1989 with his close friend Luke Ellis, in pursuit of a music career. Over the years, John built and joined many bands and performed individually. In the late 1980’s John was known for his bands, “Silence” and “Fathom” with Luke Ellis. In 1991 John met his next musical partner, Joel Bard of Guelph. Together they formed the band “Jake Stacey” which evolved into their all-original band “Foundation” in 1995. In 2000 John joined “Practically Hip” with Dean Hughes, Trent Richer, Glenn Booth, & Mark Cavarzan. He enjoyed 24 years of playing the music of one of Canada’s most iconic bands, The Tragically Hip. He was grateful for all the musical connections he made with other talented artists and fans over the years. John was also a skillful and talented guitar teacher to many students. Known as the “Guelph Guitar Guy”, John mentored budding guitar students with his softspoken guidance and patience.

John’s family and friends want to thank everyone who sent their love and best wishes to him over the past four months. Deepest gratitude to the sixth-floor nursing staff and doctors at Guelph General Hospital and St. Joseph’s Health Centre who gave him exceptional care.
