MCKAY, Dan - Mike and Lorie are sad to announce the passing of their dad at Extendicare Maple View on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at the age of 85.  He passed quietly with us by his side.  It was a time to reflect on his life and to think how happy he and mom will be together again.

Much loved husband of almost 50 years to the late Judy McKay. Cherished dad and mentor of Mike McKay (Judy) and Lorie Gill (Dean). Son of the late Thomas and Zeta McKay. Dear brother of the late John, Robert, Annabelle, Tommy, Laura, Albert and Bruce. Special brother-in-law of Linda Reid (Jim), Susan Kennedy (Les) and Jim Hernden (late Ursula). Grandpa of Brittany and the late Jessie McKay, Jason Brown, (Sarah), Lindsay Cleminson (Bryan), Travis Brown, Brock and Andrea Gill. He will be missed by his many nephews and nieces.

Danny was a quiet man who overcame challenges in his life. He cherished his family and was proud to be a dad. He and Judy loved to winter in Arizona and enjoyed their backyard deck, sipping coffee on the swing and watching the hummingbirds.  He was a good neighbor and always the first to help others while seldom asking for a helping hand himself. He enjoyed volunteering with the Lions club, fixing CNIB talking books and being part of a group of friends who helped people in the community. As one of his friends once stated “I just assumed that Dan would be here forever exemplifying the good nature and common sense he is known and respected for.”

Dad, we’ll always remember that special smile, that caring heart, that warm embrace you gave us. We feel at peace knowing you have been released from your struggles associated with dementia over the last few years.

Thank you to staff at Maple View, Twin Lakes for his care and a special thank you to Natalie for being his angel, his friend and his caregiver. Your kindness and genuine compassion will never be forgotten by our family. “You were his sunshine”

Cremation has taken place, celebration of his and Judy’s life will be held in May 2024.  Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St E. 705-759-2522). Donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated  Memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the McKay family.
