After a long hard battle with leukemia, the Valkyries came to guide Dakota peacefully to Valhalla. Dakota passed away at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Ontario on July 12, 2023, at the age of 22.

Daughter of Ann Mathieu. Granddaughter to Marlene McKinnon, Marc and Terry Mathieu and great granddaughter to Pat and Ellwood McKinnon, Helen and Glen Baird and the late Marie Mathieu. Schmoopzie to Auntie Giselle Mathieu. Grand niece to Queenship (Janet), Ruth, Bob, Chris, Joe, Greg, Dale, and Tammy. Close cousin to Zoe and Jacob. She leaves behind her close friends Sia (Cali, USA), her Nuka (Rankin Inlet, NU), ‘sisters’ to Nadine and Megan (NU), Hattie (NU) and Ciara (YK).

Dakota was an avid animal lover who adored her cats and dreamed of horses. Her love of the Marvel Universe inspired many of her art works, as did our travels in the Artic where she learned about the Inuit and G’wichin people and their crafts. She was always ready to travel to new places and try new things. She was our shadow and forever will be.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

The family would like to thank Dr. A. Xenocostas (Prof X) of Victoria Hospital (London, ON), Nurse Sonya and Dr. Christian of Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (Toronto, ON), Nurses Heidi and Maureen of Mount Sinai Hospital (Toronto, ON) and to Dakota’s Army for all your support.
