Sept. 26, 1953, to Sept. 18, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Douglas (Dougie) Roland Masters, who left us on Sept. 18 at the age of 70. Surrounded by his loving family in his final moments, he was a man of immense humour, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. He will be forever missed by his daughters Karly (Mike), Nikki (Idowu), and Jessica (Jack). He leaves behind his caring wife, Alice Masters (Oliveira). He will be greatly missed by his granddaughter Georgia, and grand pups Lacey, Kiya, and Leo. He also leaves behind his brother Larry (Jon) and sister Barbara. Uncle Dougie will be remembered by several nieces and nephews, as well as cousins and friends who all knew him. Dougie was predeceased by parents George and Sylvia Masters, brother Eddie Masters, twin sister Donna Masters, and infant brothers Gordon and Kenneth.

Dougie was known around the Soo for driving his lime green 1974 Dodge Challenger with his grand pups hanging out the window. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan who never missed a game. Although he was only a kid when the Leafs last won the cup, his love and loyalty for the Leafs never wavered. Dougie was a kid at heart and always the life of the party. His happy place was anywhere with his three girls. His devotion to his children was always present, from long hours building outdoor rinks to playing games of Sorry at the kitchen table. He was a man who said so little and enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, whether it was sitting around a bonfire or jamming out to 80’s rock in the garage. He was quick with a one liner and his laugh was infectious. Dougie rarely missed a day of work, spending his entire career working at Algoma Steel for over 40 years. In his retired years, his love for his Challenger was unmatched. He spent his winters working on it and his summers driving it around town or showing it off at all the local car shows.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 1-5 p.m. at the Up and Down Lounge (24 Second Line W Unit 2, Sault Ste. Marie, ON) to celebrate the life of Douglas. Please join our family to share in the wonderful memories he has left us with. In his honour, feel free to wear your best lime green or Leafs attire.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated in Dougie's honour to the Lupus Foundation of Canada or the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society (Payable online or by cheque).

As Dougie would say “You don’t gotta drink to have fun”.
