Passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital on Saturday, April 11, 2020 in her 95th year. Beloved and cherished mom of Bruce MacKay (Debora). Loving grandma of Katherine Ann MacKay (Don). Dear great grandma to Alexandra. Predeceased by her parents Reginald and Isabella Gibbs. Sister of the late Raymond Gibbs (late Laura) and James Gibbs (Doris). Joyce will be fondly missed and remembered by her loved ones and extended church family. Joyce was blessed to have grown up on a farm with her loving parents and two brothers. She moved to the city at age 12 on her own to attend high school and at 18 obtained her teaching diploma. She was dedicated to a lifetime of learning and teaching, continuing her university education at night. She graduated cum laude with a double major in Geography and Social Welfare in 1979. She was a devoted and respected teacher for 37 wonderful years, having enriched the lives of many students. Joyce was a proud and active member of her church, the ADK Sorority and the Retired Teachers’ Association. When we are once again allowed to meet as a community, we will announce a time to gather and celebrate the life of Joyce and all she gave to us. Donations to ARCH in lieu of flowers please.
