MacEwan, Malcolm Donald (Don)
In loving memory of Malcom Donald MacEwan, 75, who passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Health Sciences North, Sudbury. Loving father of Alexander “Sandy” MacEwan (Melani). Don was the cherished grandfather to his biggest pride and joy, granddaughter Emilia who he spoke about every day. He will be forever loved and remembered by his twin brother Neil (Sue) of Sault Ste. Marie and sister Laurie (Bob) of Elliot Lake. Don is predeceased by his parents Grace and Mac MacEwan.
Don was born in London, ON, but eventually moved to Sault Ste. Marie where he graduated from high school. Don went on to earn a degree from the University of Waterloo before moving to Sudbury to teach at Cambrian College and did so for 37 years before retiring in 2010.
Don was an avid photographer and put together quite the collection of vintage cameras and accessories. In his younger days, Don was a skilled curler, golfer and downhill skier. His passion for curling was passed on to his son Sandy (and now Emilia) at a young age. He also loved the outdoors and was an avid boater and fisherman. He had many fond memories of his parents' fishing lodge at Kawagama Lake.
You could always find Don enjoying a nice coffee, watching a favourite TV show, buying his preferred snacks at Giant Tiger or telling one of his many stories.
Many thanks to the staff at Health Sciences North (8 North) for their care and compassion while Don was a patient.
Chartwell Westmount on William Ave Retirement Residence was Don’s home the last 2 years and they welcomed him with open arms and treated him like one of their favorites.
Special thank you to family friends Dr. Lee Toner and Dr. Yves Charette for being in Don’s corner during a challenging time in his life.
A very big thank you to Ranger’s Cremation and Burial Services for helping give clarity during a time of sadness.
Last, but not least, Sandy would like to thank his wife Melani and mom Alison for being his guiding light through a difficult process. Your support over the past weeks, months and years has meant the world as I tended to my dad.
A Celebration of Life will occur in early Spring (to be determined) and will take place at the Northern Credit Union Community Centre (formerly known as Curl Sudbury).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Diabetes Canada and Parkinson Canada.
We love you dad and grandpa.
Sandy, Mel, Emilia (grand puppies Myles and Stella too)
