Carl Sidney Lutes passed away at the Sault Area Hospital on Friday, May 28, 2021. Loving husband of the late Elma Lutes for 69 years (married November 22, 1950) and loving father of Graham Lutes.  Brother of the late Ronald Lutes, the late Audrey (late George) Crowe, and the late Pauline (late Ben) Evans.  Brother-in-law of the late Glenna (late Stuart) Peterson, late Orville (Rosella) Harrison, Audrey (late Fred) Gibbs, late Lloyd (Rita) Harrison, and Barbara (Roger) Calam.  Special uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his parents Greg and Mary Lutes and son-in-law of the late Grant and Emma Harrison.

Carl was born on July 9, 1923 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.  He was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1943 to 1945.  Carl was active in the Royal Canadian Legion since 1949 and was proud to receive a Long Service Membership Certificate in 2019 for 70 years of membership.  He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Arthur Lodge No. 281.  Carl worked for the Algoma Central Railway from 1946 until his retirement in 1988.  Carl was always ready to lend a helping hand.  His favourite place was the family camp at Goulais Bay, where he enjoyed time with friends and family for the past 60 years.  

Carl’s family would like to express its deepest gratitude to Medical Unit 3B at the Sault Area Hospital for the kind and compassionate care that they provided over the past two months.

A private burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.  A celebration of Carl’s life at the family camp at Goulais Bay will be announced at a later date.  At Carl’s request, donations in his memory may be made payable by cheque or online to ARCH Hospice or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.   Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522).  Please visit Arthur Funeral Home website obituaries to leave condolence messages as a keepsake for the family.
