December 27, 1937- May 23, 2021 - With sadness, the family of Terttu Orvokki Lausanne (Jokinen), announce that their dearly loved and respected Äiti (mother), and Mummu (grandmother), passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the Mauno Kaihla Koti (MKK) with her family by her side.

Wife of the late Alpo Lausanne and the late Rainer Jokinen. Äiti of Markku Jokinen (Monique), Merja (Tina) Greco (late John) Sari Jokinen (Josh) and step mother of Timo Lausanne and Ari (Renee) Wikstrom. Loved and cherished Mummu of Rainer & Markus Jokinen, Rachel & Sophia Greco, Nikos & Maila Jokinen-Packer, Janne & Mika Lausanne and Alex & Niko Wikstrom. Loved eldest sister of Marja Charrette (Randy) of Sault Ste. Marie, Seija Saarinen, Markku Siivonen, and Leena Karjalainen all of Finland. She will be remembered by nephew Adrian Tessier of Searchmont, niece Liisa Tessier (Shaun) of Barrie, great-niece Kayla Tessier of Winnipeg, and nieces and nephews in Finland, and her very special “kahvi kaveri” Liisa Lausanne.

Terttu was very proud of her Finnish heritage and volunteered with the Sault Finnish School for many years.  Her home was a welcoming place for all to enjoy coffee and pulla any time of day.  We are pretty sure that her grandchildren had coffee and pulla for breakfast on the many sleepovers they had at her house. It was not uncommon to see her on the living room floor under a blanket tent playing Barbies or Legos with her grandchildren…they were the light of her life!

To her children, Terttu was the pillar of strength after the loss of their father in their very young years. She never asked for anything and always gave of herself, holding her head up with determination to provide for her children. When her children left home, she found her special someone to marry again. Alpo was patient and kind in the most trying times of Terttu's journey with Alzheimer's.

Heartfelt thank you to MKK-BSO for the extra special relationship you had with Terttu, every MKK care giver, dietary, ES staff who treated her as their own mother, and to the exceptional palliative care team for their tender loving care of our mother in her last days. We will never forget how you embraced Terttu’s “SISU’’, letting her teach you how to mop the floors properly, and taking her for many walks.  Thank you for playing her cherished “Englebert” songs and her beloved Finnish music. Our mother could not have been more loved and cared for by any other team…you all “Give Exceptional Care” every day at MKK. Kiitos.

A private family service will take place at a later date.  Terttu was a Life Member and volunteer of the Ontario Finnish Resthome Association; the family would appreciate donations made in her memory (payable by cheque or online) to The Ontario Finnish Resthome Foundation or to the Alzheimer’s Society.  It was a difficult journey watching how Alzheimer's disease took over her mind and body. She is now free to be as she once was. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522). Please visit Arthur Funeral Home website obituaries to leave memories and condolences as a keepsake for the family.
