1954-2024

Passed away after a year-long battle with cancer, surrounded by family at the Sault Area Hospital on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the age of 70.

Diane is now reunited with her beloved husband, Gerry Lariviere. Adored mother of John and Mike Lariviere, stepmother of Tammy Wright (Brian) and Michelle Wilkins (Brian). Treasured Nana of Jordan and Reagan Lariviere, and Alexander Sebastien. Special Nana to Colin Dowling. Loved Godmother of Aliesha Moore.

Dear daughter of the late John and the late Madeline Chlebus. Cherished sister of the late Michael Chlebus (Patti), late Karen Draycott (late Roger), Terry Moore (Randy), Brian Chlebus (Janet), and David Chlebus (Valerie Mantha). Sister-in-law of Dolly Rose (late Al), Pat Wilson (late Don), late Henry Lariviere (Sandra), Helen Blais (late Laurie), and Mel Dellaire (Carol). Diane will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and friends.

Diane was the third child (second daughter) of six siblings, born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, where she met the love of her life, Gerry, while she was waitressing. In time she and Gerry married and started their family before moving to Richard’s Landing. When Gerry was transferred to Harriston, Ontario for work, they relocated their family and spent many happy years there with friends and community. It was during this time that she became a foster-parent to many children and teens. The family often travelled to the Sault for vacation and holidays before returning permanently in the mid-2000’s.

Diane was an avid reader and constantly had a book in-hand (even from youth, when she would upset her sister Karen with whom she shared a room, by staying up too late with the light on to read).

Though she experienced many health challenges, she was unwavering in her determination to be present for her family. Diane adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment she spent with them. She loved and led with an uncompromising tenacity that she displayed until the end of her life.

Cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her late husband, Gerry. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Sault Ste. Marie Helping Hands.

A special thank you to Auntie Terry and Uncle Randy for the care, love, and support that they have given to Mom over the past several years.
