Following shocking dual wins by her Soo Greyhounds and Toronto Maple Leafs, Mom passed away at peace on the evening of January 16, 2025, at Pathways, in her 96th year … joining her only sister, Sister Rita Mahoney.
She was the unconditional proud supporter of her children, Frankie (Virginia), Cheri (Kenny), Suzanne, and Mark (Kathy). A loving and vibrant “Gramma Jean” to Kristen, Kraig (Kristina), Kevin (Mel), Karli (Dave), Bryan (Krista), Gregg (Amanda), Jenna, Lindy (Adam), Jamie, Robin (Chris), Billy (deceased), Stephen (Sandra), Melyssa, Alexis, and Kristofer (Patricia) along with being great-grandmother to 23.
Mom was a warm and welcoming presence who brought enthusiasm and joy to her family and friends, including her beloved legions of Michigan cousins. She was an active member of the Precious Blood Cathedral community, serving 72 years with the Catholic Woman’s League. She was legendary for her entertaining and cooking—monkey bread, cocktails, baked beans, cocktails, apple pies, and cocktails were famous.
Following in her mother’s footsteps, Mom enjoyed a competitive game of bridge until the end. One of the many ways Mom’s legacy lives on is with her handmade needlepoint Christmas stockings, lovingly and meticulously crafted for each of us, right down to her last great-grandchild and then some. Mom’s legacy of love, faith, and friendship will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her—and what a privilege it was!
A special thank you goes to her many friends at 99 Pine, whom she considered an extension of her family. She enjoyed her Friday Happy Hour gatherings in the lobby, parties in the social room, and the many visits she had with each of you.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Pathways and her long-time friends Norma and Reva. We also appreciate Dr. Karen Booth for her care and compassion during these final years of her journey. The family would also like to extend our appreciation to her good friend, Father Alex.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Memorial Mass on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 11:00am at Precious Blood Cathedral. A private family inurnment will follow. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life directly following the inurnment from 1:00pm – 3:00pm in the Precious Blood Cathedral Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice are appreciated.
Mom’s final words for all of us, ‘If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.’ And if you think she was wrong about that … ‘you’ll see’.
