Mary Jean Keating, born April 6, 1928, passed away peacefully at home on June 8, 2023. 

She is predeceased by her parents, Minnie and Claude O’Shaughnessy, her beloved husband, Raymond, her three sisters, Ruth, Claudine and Millwood, her brother, John, her granddaughter, Shirley Rae, and her grandson, Vincent.  Mourning her passing are her brother, Maurice, and her children, D’Arcy (Monica), Ann (Ralph), Frances, Gregory, Clare, Michael (Kate), Bernard (Cathy), Mark, Desmond, and Lorraine. Grandmother of 28, Great Grandmother of 12.

Jean was born in Cobalt, Ontario and attended St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto. She had a distinguished teaching career in Oshawa, Iroquois Falls, South Porcupine, and Sault Ste. Marie. In addition to teaching, she loved theatre. In Sault Ste. Marie alone, she was involved in over 60 theatre productions as an actor, director or producer. She was an accomplished knitter. She was the social convenor of the Bean Bag Ladies. She loved to play Bridge.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church (26 Carmel Road), on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 11 am to 12 pm. Funeral mass will follow at 12 pm. Fr. Alex Saurianthadathil officiating. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to view the service online starting at 12:00 pm Thursday, June 15, 2023 and can be viewed anytime up to 90 days, go to www.funeraweb.tv and select Mary Jean's name. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions payable by cheque or online to St. Jerome’s Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family.
