James Purves Hughson, known affectionately to friends and family as Jim, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on October 16, 1948, in Dundee, Scotland, he immigrated to Canada at the age of 9. Jim was the cherished son of the late Agnes Smith Croft Black Hughson and the late James Purves Hughson Sr. He was a loving husband to JoAnn Christine Hughson, a devoted father to Janet (Shawn) Poirier and James (Vicky) Hughson. Grandfather to Tyler Poirier, Ethan Poirier, and Hunter Hughson. Great Papa to Jake Lesage, Lyla Pieper, and Jaxson Pieper.

He was predeceased by his siblings Elizabeth (Robert) Richards, Gordon Hughson, and Agnes Hughson. Nephew to Shiela (late Phillip) Brannen, cousin to Phyllis Bettlo and Stuart Brannen. Brother-in-law to Brenda (Jake) Kaufman, Kathy Fryia, Mary (Tom) Brooks, Lorraine (John) Paciocco. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Canada, Scotland, and the US. Good friend to Dave Esson and Jerry (Johneen) Zorzi for many years. He will be deeply missed by his Card Night Gang, the Dart Night Crew at camp, and the other friends he has known throughout the years.

Professionally, Jim dedicated 30 years as a skilled machinist at Algoma Steel. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and outdoor sports. His love for camp life was evident to all who shared his campfire stories and outdoor escapades. A card shark at heart, Jim's strategic mind made him a worthy opponent. His passion for darts was more than a pastime; it was a weekly ritual that brought laughter and friendly competition into his life. Beyond his adventurous pursuits, Jim had a tender side that was reflected in his love for feeding birds and chippers. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Rest in peace, dear Jim, until we meet again.

There will be no service, as per Jim’s wishes. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
