It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Darci Michelle “Jessica” (nee Myren) Holmberg, aged 59, on Thursday, November 9th, 2023 at Sault Area Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Darci was born to Donald and Terri (McMurry) Myren in Winston Salem, N.C. on the Fourth of July in 1964. (For many years, she assumed the fireworks displays were in her honor). In 1969 her family moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That’s when our All-American Girl became an Honorary Canuck! She was proud of her American heritage, but she lived happily in Canada for over 50 years. One reason for her great love of Canada was the wonderful Canadian man she married in 1989 - Kevin Holmberg. Darci and Kevin had a loving and supportive marriage and recently celebrated their 34th anniversary.

Darci was a kind soul, with a good heart and absolutely no malice towards anyone. Her wants in life were simple, and her generosity was well known. If she ever met you, she remembered you. Her memory for people was legendary. She remembered names and faces of people she had met as far back as kindergarten. She constantly amazed us with her incredible memory.

Darci was diagnosed with an adult-onset form of Muscular Dystrophy as a young teen. She was very stoic about this diagnosis, and for many years she remained asymptomatic. But as the disease progressed, life became more of a challenge for her. In the past few years she really began to struggle. Thank goodness for Kevin - he always made certain Darci had everything she needed. He was the love of her life and a true blessing to her.

Darci is survived by her beloved husband, Kevin Holmberg of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, sister, Danna (Terry) Sanderson of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, brother Ted (Tracey) Myren of London, Ontario, sister-in-laws Riley (Fred) Shoust and Karen (Len) Mizzi of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Donna (John) Ward of St. Catherines, Ontario and mother-in-law Doreen Holmberg of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. She is also survived by nephews Treyce (Madi) Sanderson, Ryan Sanderson, Jacob Myren, Adam (Amanda) Ward, Nicholas Shoust, David Holmberg, Nolan Hawke and great- nephews Hudson Ward, Benjamin Bouvier and Asher Gray as well as nieces Riley Myren, Alex (Mike Bouvier) Ward, Andrea Shoust, Alyssa (Garrett Gray) Hawke and great-niece Mila Gray.

Darci was predeceased by her parents Terri and Donald Myren and father-in-law Clarence Holmberg, as well as her dear friend Patti Chevrier.

A celebration of Darci’s life will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 4 pm to 6 pm at 275 Albert Street East, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (in the Social Hall). Visitor parking and entry door available at rear of building.
