Passed away in peace and comfort on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at home surrounded by family, after a long encounter with cancer. Sandra was a dynamic woman with a positive outlook of creative energy, but her most cherished role was that of mother to Cameron Mihell, Cydney Mihell, Caitlin Mihell (Ramin) and Conor Mihell (Kim), all of whom she trusted immensely and encouraged to follow their dreams. Sandra was the admired sister of Judy Hodge (Don), Michelle Hodge-Brooks (Joe) and Jackie Vanden Heuven (Marty), and the aunt and great-aunt of many nieces and nephews. Sandra arrived in Sault Ste. Marie over 30 years ago as a young adult educator and quickly became established in the art community. Her unique vision blended her passion for pottery, reading and writing to inspire learning. She was loved by her many friends, many of whom paid Sandra daily visits in her final months. Special thanks to the countless friends and home care professionals who contributed energy and expertise to keep Sandra comfortable. She will be remembered as being a wonderful listener, remarkably observant and always inspiring for her quiet conviction—evidenced by the popularity of the witty and honest Facebook diary she kept sharing her life’s final journey.
