May 14, 1926 - December 28, 2024
Passed away peacefully at home on Saturday December 28, 2024 at the age of 98.
Predeceased by her devoted husband Kenneth (2017). She was the caring and loving mom of Tom (Debbie), Deborah Kalinowski (Rick), Heather Nisbett (Jim), Terry (Heather) and Eunice Ndebele. Predeceased by Clifford (Kip), Lori and her husband David, Allan Loon (jane) and Morley Loon. Beloved grandmother of 15 and great grandmother of 26.
Mom lived life to the fullest. She was born in Kapuskasing and moved to the Sault when she was three. She excelled in school and graduated grade 13 a few weeks following her 17th birthday.
In 1944 she joined the Army where she became a Sergeant serving in Ottawa. After the War mom studied Nursing at the Hamilton General Hospital where she became night supervisor.
Mom and Dad were married in 1951 and eventually returned to the Sault to raise their family. They enjoyed travelling to many part of the world and across Canada through Elderhostels and conferences with Telecare. Summers were spent at the family 'farm' where (with a lot of hard work) enough vegetables were grown to last us throughout the year. Later in her life mom took up the bobbin lace making and was one of the founding founders of the International Bobbin Lace Camp at Gore Bay. It is still going after 25 years.
Mom was a very active member of her Church. Her faith in God is what got her through many tough times. Now her family takes comfort in knowing she is safe in the arms of her Lord and Saviour. Mom lived in her own apartment until she was 95. then she returned to the home she grew up in to live with Heather and Jim. We are so grateful that mom's last days were in the home she loved.
The family would like to thank the wonderful PSW's from Home Instead and Care Partners, especially, Donnoa, Omega and Steph. Also Bay Shore nurses Leigh and Jeff. We could not have gotten through these last few weeks without you.
