“Do you know what I fancy?” were the last words of Barbara Henderson, who passed peacefully on Saturday December 30th, 2023 well with her daughter Sarah (who was Thelma to her Louise) and friend Jodi at her side.

At the age of 88, she was ready to join her parents Raymond and Annie Hodges and all her siblings and partners who had predeceased her: Kathleen Martin (Peter), Vera Alloi (Mario), Doreen Bailey (Tom), Raymond Hodges (Val) and Leonard Hodges, for a few laughs and a game of crib.

She may have been even more excited to be reunited with her Persian Wookie and Himalayan Tiffany. Her cat Oscar “that little devil” has taken up residence with her devoted daughter Sarah, equally saint-like ‘son-in-law’ Marty, her favourite dog Razor, and Cairo.

Predeceased by her oldest daughter Susan (Chris). Nan to Samantha (Hal) and Simon (Nikki). She will be remembered by her nieces and nephews, good friends, her surrogate family the Mancusos, and her watchful neighbours of Oakwood Drive.

In lieu of flowers,  memorial donations may be made (payable by cheque or online) to TAAG or Northern Critters (for her love of animals).

We’ll never know what would follow her “Do you know what I fancy?” but all bets are on a buffet with all the lobster, crab, fish and chips, curry, ribs, ice cream, and cheesecake she can eat, followed by a shopping expedition to get a new outfit, and then a relaxing afternoon sunning herself on a beach. She’ll probably be regaling all her family with stories of growing up in England and how cold the weather was in Canada. And then, she’ll say: “Let’s go. It’s time…”

A celebration of life will follow, on a hot sunny day that she would want to be outside.
