HEADRICK, Mac
Dog loving, football playing, music listening, record collecting, family man passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital on January 29, 2024, at the young age of 74.
Mac is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda. Mac was the proud father of three children Mac Headrick, Sean Headrick, and Kaytee Iachetta (Mike). Mac especially loved his buddy and grandson Dominic Iachetta.
Mac is predeceased by his parents Douglas and Merle Headrick. If you knew Mac, he would often reflect on the "good old days" of growing up on Calaboogie Road in Echo Bay with his three brothers Raymond (Donna), Craig, and Robert. Mac loved and will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Mac will also be missed by his dear friends Bill and Susan St. Jules.
In his younger years, Mac played football throughout high school, and was greatly influenced and admired the Green Bay Packers. Eventually he played for the Sault Steeler Football team where he was fortunate enough to be a member of the 1972 team winning the Canadian Senior Football Championship. In 1975 and 1976 Mac received the Province of Ontario Achievement Award in recognition of distinguished performance in the field of amateur sport. On July 15, 2000, Mac was inducted into the Northern Football Hall of Fame for both his defensive and offensive performances throughout his years of play. Due to his love of sport, Mac continued to stay involved by coaching, assistant coaching, managing, and announcing local amateur sport.
Mac was further recognized in the community due to spending most of his career with the Algoma District School Board. Beyond his daily work, he also sat on many community boards and committees. Mac loved the City of Sault Ste. Marie and was proud to be born and raised here.
If you had the pleasure of spending time with Mac, you would be highly entertained by his sense of humor and quick wit. Mac also experienced an unyielding empathy, kindness, and understanding to others in their time of need.
The family is abiding by Mac's wishes to forgo a funeral service. The family does plan on having a celebration of life at a later date.
Mac's family would like to extend a special thank you to the countless medical professionals involved in his care over the past years. You've all been kind, compassionate, and wonderful.
Memorial donations to the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society (Payable online https://ssmhumanesociety.ca/ or by cheque) or a pet rescue of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
Mac/Dad rest in paradise, and remember legends never die.
