It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved Daryl, AKA Champ. Daryl passed in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday June 23, at the age of 49. Loving son of Paul (Marie), and predeceased by his loving mother Deborah. Daryl’s legacy is carried on by his loving wife Becky, his children Jack and Makenna, his older brother and best friend Mark (Jodie), mother in law Mary Strath (the late Graham), sisters-in-law Cindy (Kevin), Anne(Al) and brother-in-law Ed. Daryl will also be greatly missed by the Taylor family (Papa T, step brother Dennis (Emery) and step sister Ashley) and his many nieces/nephews, Adam, Peter, Jen, Danielle, Amanda (Adam), Scott, Braedyn, Hunter, Kayden, Emmerson, Briggs and Weston. Many close friends will also greatly feel his absence.

Daryl lived up to his nickname Champ as he went to battle against Multiple Myeloma. He fought hard and made it clear that giving up was never an option. Through the toughest days, he still had a smile on his face and kind words for those around him.

He was through and through a family man. His devotion to wife Becky and children Jack and Makenna was unmatched. His love for his brother Mark created an unbreakable bond between them. Champ was the playful dad, the teacher of all sports, the encourager, and the role model to all. He was so proud of his kids and never missed one opportunity with them.

Daryl was always the favourite uncle. He loved his nieces and nephews deeply and was always available for a chat or visit when they needed him the most. He was the fun guy, the kid magnet, and the player and inventor of all games to keep the little ones busy. There was nothing Daryl enjoyed more than cooking up a big ole’ Sunday breakfast for everyone while listening to his Sunday morning playlist. Daryl was the playlist pro and loved to create and share his masterpieces.

Daryl was a proud Elliot Laker and showed this through his dedication as an employee of the City. He began as a summer student and through commitment and determination he worked himself to the position of Director of Public Works. He loved his job and all his colleagues.

Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Prescott and Dr. Stirling for the amazing care and friendship throughout Daryl’s illness, along with the dedicated nursing team at St Joseph’s General Hospital, HSN, and Bayshore Home Health. Special mention to Connie, Barry, Wendy and Tania, your kindness and diligence is much appreciated.

As per Daryl’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration to honour his life will be held at a later date.

In true Champ style we will end with his signature touch, a roses are red poem.

Roses are red,
His teams are white and blue,
Daryl will always be the Champ,
We will forever love you.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave). Online condolences to the Halloch family may be made at www.elliotlakefuneralchapel.com
