It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Leah Archambault Gauthier at the North Shore Health Network in Blind River on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the age of 88, surrounded by her loving family.

Leah was the cherished daughter of the late Leo and late Evelyn Archambault and the devoted wife of the late Wilfrid “Pete” Gauthier, sharing 64 wonderful years of marriage. She was the treasured mother of Suzanne Maloney (Brian) and Mark Gauthier. The proud mere to her beloved grandchildren Shannon Maloney (Steve), Connie Horton (Chad), Mandy Maloney (Jason) and Kayla Gauthier. Her joy continued with her great grandchildren Tyler, Ryan, Libby, Liam and Markca-Jai. Leah was a dear sister to her late twin brother Leo, the late Joyce Leboeuf (late Eugene), the late Betty Fascina (late Peter), the late Paul Archambault and the late John Archambault (late Carol). She is survived by her sisters Irene “Tiffy” Korschin (late Herbert), Patsy Kosiek (Larry) and Lea “Mano” Nadon. She was also a loving sister-in-law to the late Rolland “Russ” Gauthier and the late Adelard Gauthier and is survived by Rita Lamontagne (Wally) and Germaine “Memene” Gagnon (late Kenny). Leah will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Leah cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially at the family cottage on Bass Lake. She loved spending time at home and cherished her Wednesday night BINGO outings with Carolaine who became more than just a friend. She was a daughter to Leah. Leah and Pete were known for their generosity and warmth, owning and operating Gauthier Food Mart for many years. They later worked at the Iron Horse and ran the restaurant at the Huron Pines Golf Course in Blind River. Their stories of kindness and hospitality are shared by friends and strangers alike. It is no surprise that Leah was lovingly known as mere throughout the entire town of Blind River.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Mano for the many thoughtful phone calls and valuable advice. A special thank you to the doctors and staff at NSHN, particularly nurses Veronica and Jennifer and PSW Sierra for their exceptional care and compassion.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date where friends and family can gather to honour Leah’s memory. In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Shore Health Network Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Menard Funeral Home.

When you think of Leah, play her favourite song, Bad Timing by Blue Rodeo and let the music bring back memories of her gentle spirit and the love she shared with all who knew her.
