It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our brother, Laval at the Sault Area Hospital, on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the age of 76. Laval is predeceased by his parents Leonard and Madeline Gagné, his brother Gaetan Gagné and his brother-in-law, Jon Sayers. Much loved older brother of Christian (Sheri), Wayne (Pat), Lynn Sayers (Don Smith), Marlene Agawa (James), Charlene and sister-in-law Janie Gagné. Uncle Laval will be forever missed by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He had a special connection with each and every one of them.

Laval was a strong, independent, hardworking, fun-loving man who never let his physical challenges hold him back. He lived most of his life in Batchawana Bay, where he was well known and well respected. As a young man, he meticulously maintained the community ice rink for the young and old alike to enjoy skating, hockey games, broomball and curling all winter long.

During the 1980s, Laval began competing athletically with the local Sault Sportables Group, an athletic organization for disabled athlete. He travelled to both provincial and international competitions. His hard work and determination earned him numerous gold and silver medals and ribbons in weightlifting, track, shot put and discus.

Laval proudly worked in the maintenance department at Pancake Bay Provincial Park for 27 seasons. His friendly face became known to all of the campers and their families over the years, and he was often told how much he was missed after retirement.

Laval had a remarkable ability to connect with others and enjoyed nothing more than to sit on the swing in his front yard and share a Labatt Blue with whoever happened to stop by for a visit. His genuine personality and sense of humour were enjoyed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be missed.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Monday, February 3, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Please join the family in the lower lounge for a time of sharing at 6:30 p.m. Memorial donations to the March of Dimes or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

The family would like to thank the Red Cross and the March of Dimes for all of the services and care they provided for Laval the past few years. They would also like to thank the nurses on 3B at the Sault Area Hospital for their kindness and compassion during a difficult time. www.northwoodfuneral.com
